Oxmore (where colonials needed just one ox more to get up over the ridge that now forms Virginia’s state line) is not a big town by any means.  The post office is located in the old depot, which also serves as an L.C.L. freighthouse for regional businesses.  More importantly, a large mine is located off of a wye, though this mine produces sand processed from the sandstone under the ground.

Oxmore, VA, fictionalized map

Oxmore and its mine are modeled almost in their entirety on the layout, with plenty of scenic space allocated to convey the sense of climbing over the Appalachian spine.  Oxmore is roughly equivalent to the real-world Gore, VA, where the Winchester and Western serves a sand mine, and terminates.  Of course, the WP&P continues on its westerly way.
