The proposed layout represents the route west from Winchester, across
the state line into West Virginia and the Paston Valley, which in real
life is the valley of the South Branch of the Potomac River. The
route closely matches that of two shortlines in the area, the
Winchester and Western, and the South Branch Valley.
I have recently purchased a new home, and the final plan is being
worked out. The layout is built sectionally, so the few sections
which already exist can be reconfigured to fit an available space, by
redesigning certain key sections. The layout will fill a 15' x
14' space, with an adjoining 4' x 10' closet serving as staging.
Minimum radius of the mainline will be 15", and industrial spurs
will be at least 11" radius; Micro-Engineering #6 code 55 switches are
planned throughout, except where a few Peco curved switches are needed.
I like to use the weathered rail by Micro Engineering. The
staging yard will be built on two levels, with a single line rising
between them to allow for continuous running; one end represents
Grafton, WV, and the other represents Roanoke, VA.
