Paston Valley refers to the whole area around Paston, which is roughly the same as the real-world Moorefield, WV.  The most productive coal mines are located at the base of the hills rising to the west of town.  Paston has a few industries as well, and with plenty of flat land the main line fans out to three tracks – one passing siding and one “hole” for the mine turns which need time to switch the mines.

Paston Valley is the deepest scene on the layout, with three feet of depth.  The mainline snakes its way through with plenty of foreground and background, affording several good viewing angles.  There is a loop which links up the mines to the main, which in steam days permitted mine turns without proceeding on to Sunnyvale.
