SD40-2 After spending 3 weeks to do a 3D-edited steam engine, I decided to see if a simpler project could be tackled in just an afternoon. This took me about a day and a half, overall - proof that editing of .3DP files does not need to be exhausting. EMD introduced the SD40 in 1966, which I chose as the start date for this engine, though graphically it really represents an SD40-2, which had the distinctive long front and rear "porches". This diesel was extremely popular and continues in service on a lot of railroads to this day. I've long felt that it was an engine that was conspicuously absent from the game, and now I've finally got one to play with! I skinned this as a SOO white and red unit, mostly because this is a skin which will be easy to edit, for those that wish to do other roadnames. My ultimate goal is to do an N&W version, but N&W preferred high short hoods and so I'll have to do a few more .3DP edits. However, most railroads ran this version, and I wanted to get it to this more generic state so that others could make use of it. Keep watching for the N&W version, to come along later. INSTRUCTIONS: DOWNLOAD THE SooSD40 - as ZIP file, you must unzip and then place the PK4 file in "UserExtraContent", the rest into "EngineTypes" I am interested in your feedback, especially via Hawk's Forum.
