How to Pave a Road in N-scale

For my N-trak module, I intended to have a small road sit at the back edge and help make the transition from 3-D model to 2-D backdrop. Having never been satisfied with techniques I’ve used in the past to make a road, I decided to innovate.

Module Design

My N-Trak module was designed initially as an exercise to see just how much could be made to happen within the standard 24″ by 48″ dimensions of a regular module, and adhering to all the N-Trak standards for curvature, tangents, etc. I came up with a design that actually worked pretty well to tell one more piece of the WP&P story, which is its interchange with the Norfolk & Western’s Shenandoah Valley main line.

My N-Trak module, representing an interchange between two railroads, incorporates some of my not-quite-conventional modeling techniques. These under-construction photos show a little bit of what is “under the hood”, so to speak.
